4.6" Azurite and Malachite Crystal Association - China

This is a gorgeous, 4.6" wide association of sparkling azurite crystals with fibrous malachite, collected from the Liufengshan Mine in China. The azurite crystals formed in a variety of sizes and bear a deep-blue coloration. Vibrant fibrous green malachite can be found encrusting the azurite crystals and host rock.

The specimen is accompanied by an acrylic display base.

Azurite and Malachite are known to form in union with each other, for their chemical makeup is very similar. In fact, the presence of more or less water in the location of formation, is enough to determine whether an abundance of malachite over azurite, or vise-versa, will accumulate.

These minerals tend to be found near copper deposits, which accounts for the colors the minerals display. This association of azurite and malachite on copper rich, iron oxide matrix was found in the Liufengshan mine.
