11" Amethyst & Green Quartz Geode on Metal Stand - Uruguay

This is a gorgeous amethyst and quartz crystal geode from the famous amethyst mines near Artigas, Uruguay. The quartz crystals range between colorless, purple (amethyst) and spots of orange quartz and green quartz. The unique coloration would be due to natural heating of the amethyst deposit by a nearby lava flow or intrusion.

This geode also displays stalactite formations, some of which have been cut and polished, revealing the inner formation structure. I can pretty much guarantee this incredible piece will look better in person than in the photos.

The entire piece weighs 16.7 lbs, measures 11" tall, 8" wide and stands 15.3" tall on the included custom metal display stand.

Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz (SiO2) and owes its violet color to natural irradiation, iron impurities, and the presence of trace elements, which result in complex crystal lattice substitutions. It’s considered a semi-precious gemstone, and just two centuries ago was considered to have a value on par with diamonds, sapphires and rubies. The largest, and best known amethyst deposit occur in southern Brazil and Uruguay but many localities around the world produce an amazing variety of amethyst crystals and formations.
