1.2" Polished "Moonstone" Sphere

This is a 30mm (1.2") wide polished "moonstone" sphere. The trade name for this stone is "moonstone". It does exhibit a chatoyant effect, however the adularescence is not present. The pictures are representative of the specimen(s) you will receive, so there may be some slight variation in color.

Moonstone is a common and well-known gemstone that earned its name from its white to bluish "glowing" appearance in the light, caused by a phenomenon similar to chatoyance called adularescence. This light play is a result of albite crystals within the main orthoclase feldspar crystal lattice that form as a scale-like crystal formation. The light then reflects and scatters off of these formations, resulting in what appears to be a glow from beneath the surface of the stone. Good quality moonstone can have almost a bluish adularescence.
