Bargain Austerops & Morocops Trilobite Fossils - 2 to 3"
These are Lower Devonian aged phacopid (Austerops or Morocops) trilobite fossils collected near Ofaten, Morocco. They have been prepared using airscribes to remove the hard limestone surrounding them and they look like they are ready to crawl off the rock. Some are laid out prone, though most are curled or enrolled and measure between 2" and 3" long if outstretched, with some being slightly smaller.
These are real trilobite fossils but the preparation is rough compared to the ones we sell individually, hence the bargain price. Many have some shell weathering or some degree of shell restoration.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
