FossilEra - Fossil & Mineral Listing Specialist (Monroe, Washington)

We are looking for an additional science-minded writer to grow into the very specific role of specimen listing entry. A passion for fossils/minerals is essential, as is some background in earth sciences such as geology or paleontology. 

This is an entry-level position and we are looking for a candidate with the passion, drive and foundational knowledge who can learn this position over time. The hands-on experience you'll get through this apprenticeship-style role is unmatched. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position at our warehouse/office in the Frylands area of Monroe. We offer paid holidays and vacation time, along with a health benefits program.

You are: Able to balance customer needs with business goals and have a strong desire to research and grow within the position. Curious and analytical, you never stop learning and have a desire to consistently obtain accurate information. Overall, you will have a direct impact on improving our customer experience by ensuring that our specimens are described correctly every time.

Working collaboratively as part of the specimen entry team, you will be a key part of the process to deliver precise information to our customers which directly impacts their decision to purchase our fossils and minerals. 

 What you will do - Responsibilities:

  • Create listings for individual fossil and mineral specimens.
  • Price fossil and mineral specimens.
  • Write descriptions for fossil and mineral specimens.
  • Research customer questions.
  • Help out with other tasks including packaging, shipping, organization depending on workload.

 Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Passionate about fossils & minerals. 
  • Hungry for knowledge and wants to learn.
  • Ask lots of questions and are very good at following instructions.
  • Is good at researching and can understand scientific papers.
  • Attention to details and desire to provide accurate information.
  • Some base knowledge of earth sciences (geology, paleontology, etc) 
  • Some biology, zoology, anatomy knowledge is a huge plus.
  • Is a proficient writer and enjoys writing

FossilEra - Social Media Coordinator (Monroe, Washington)

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic fossil/mineral/crystal-focused Social Media Coordinator. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, a versatile creative writer, and a team player. They will create informed and attractive social media campaigns that appeal to our target audience of potential customers. The content is placed in formats that can be used on various social channels. The Coordinator will then monitor the efficiency of the campaigns. They will be an active participant in data collection and analysis in order to consistently improve the company’s social media practices over time.

Additionally, the Social Media Coordinator will create postings and advertisements that can be shared to communicate with consumers on a public forum. The postings are responsible for promoting the brand and reputation of FossilEra. The Social Media Coordinator is then responsible for following any conversations relative to the post and to interact with any public responses. It is their responsibility to maintain the integrity of the brand. Pictures, text and videos will be used to draw attention to specific fossils & minerals. This is an opportunity to enhance our vision and online presence. 

This will initially be a part-time, approximately 20 hours per week position. While much of this job can be done remotely, we need someone who is local as they will need to be onsite frequently to produce content specifically for social media (photos & videos). The position has the potential to transition to full-time once the metrics show that the campaigns are effective. If the position does transition to full-time, we could eventually offer paid holidays and vacation time, along with a health benefits program.

Working collaboratively as part of the Social Media team, you will be a key part of the process to entice customers, new and old, to visit our site to purchase fossils and minerals.

What you will do - Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and post to social media accounts on various platforms including Facebook and Instagram.
  • Create consistent, meaningful content (video/photo) specifically for distribution on social media accounts, including writing and editing social media posts, improving customer engagement, and promoting social media campaigns.
  • Coordinate with FossilEra staff around various promotions.
  • Tier 1 response to comments and messages on social media, including responding to queries in a timely manner.
  • Measure results of social media campaigns determine what strategies are effective at driving sales.
  • Perform other duties when needed.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Part time, approximately 20 hours per week. Can grow into a full-time position if proven successful at driving additional sales. Potentially could be combined with other roles like packaging to be a full-time job.
  • While much of the work can be done from home, the applicant must be local. They will need to routinely come into the warehouse to create content and be involved in the company culture.
  • Must have in depth knowledge of the fossil & mineral space. Ideal candidates might be either already a customer of ours or have run their own side business selling minerals & fossils.
  • The candidate must have experience using social media to sell products or services. 1-2 years of experience including planning and managing content in an online shopping setting. They should expect to present this and show examples during the interview process.
  • Must be very familiar with Facebook and Instagram. Experience with other social networks (YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Twitter, etc) is a big plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as they will be working closely with others at the company.
  • We want someone who sees themselves as an implementer, not simply a strategist or idea person. There is no shortage of ideas of what to do, just need someone to implement them and analytically determine their effectiveness.
  • We want someone with a data driven, analytical approach. They need to be able to validate the work they are doing with numbers. We need to show we are generating sales and not just likes or followers.
  • Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.

FossilEra - Staff Content Writer (Remote)

We are looking for an on-staff content writer to produce engaging, in-depth informational articles, product category descriptions, blog posts as well as enhance our current listings. This person must have a deep knowledge of and passion for fossils and minerals. A background in earth sciences such as geology or paleontology is essential. 

Responsibilities include conducting thorough research on relevant  topics, generating ideas for new content and proofreading articles before publication. If you’re familiar with producing online content and have an eye for detail, we’d like to meet you. Please share samples of your work or portfolio of your published articles, along with your application.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position with flexible hours. While our offices are located in Monroe, Washington this can be a fully remote position.

Working independently as a content writer, you will be a key part of the process to deliver precise information to our customers which directly impacts their decision to purchase our fossils and minerals. 

What you will do - Responsibilities:

  • Research and write engaging articles on a wide variety of fossil, mineral and geology related topics.
  • Write detailed descriptions for fossil and mineral product categories.
  • Edit and enhance the text for current product listings.
  • While initially you will be provided lists of specific topics to write about, eventually you will be responsible for identifying and proposing topics yourself.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Passionate and knowledgable about fossils & minerals. 
  • Is a proficient and practiced writer.
  • Knowledge of earth sciences (geology, paleontology, etc).
  • Adept at online research and experienced at reading scientific papers & journals.
  • Able to translate often complex scientific topics into layman's terms in an engaging fashion.
  • Able to proofread and edit your work.
  • Attention to details and desire to provide accurate information.
  • Experience with search engine content marketing is highly desirable.
