1.22" Fossil Hooked White Shark Tooth - Lee Creek (Aurora), NC

This is a gorgeous glossy fossil hooked white shark tooth (Carcharodon (Isurus) planus) tooth, collected from the Lee Creek Mine in Aurora, North Carolina. This famous site has been closed to collecting for many years now, so good fossil shark teeth are getting harder to come by.

The exact classification of these teeth has been hotly debated for several decades. Historically, these teeth have been classified as a mako shark (Isurus planus or Cosmopolitodus planus) but more recent research has suggested they fall into the white shark lineage (Carcharodon planus), You can read more about this here.
