1.5" Early Cambrian Trilobite (Perrector) - Tazemmourt, Morocco
This is a 1.5" long Early Cambrian trilobite, Perrector falloti, collected near Tazemmourt, Morocco. It is a distinctive and less commonly offered Moroccan trilobite, making it a nice example for collectors interested in the early diversification of trilobites during the Cambrian.
The taxonomy of this species has been treated somewhat inconsistently in the literature and fossil trade. The genus Perrector is generally regarded as synonymous with Richterops and Resserops, and specimens of this species are often listed under one of those better-known names. However, Perrector is likely the more technically appropriate genus assignment.
Regardless of the nomenclature used, this specimen represents an attractive example of an unusual Early Cambrian trilobite from one of Morocco's important Cambrian fossil localities.
