1.8" Large, Chocolate-Brown Kettneraspis Trilobite - Lghaft, Morocco

This is an impressive, 1.8" long specimen of the unusual and highly collectible spiny trilobite, Kettneraspis? prescheri, from Morocco. Particularly striking is its exceptionally prominent occipital spine, which rises dramatically from the back of the head, giving this rare trilobite its distinctive appearance. Beautifully preserved with rich, chocolate-brown shell coloration and intricate spination, this is a superb example of this fascinating species. Shell restoration is less than 1%, limited to small areas along professionally repaired cracks.

About Trilobites

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
