2.9" Spectacular Flying Dicranurus Trilobite With Zlichovaspis
This is a spectacularly prepared example of Dicranurus monstrosus naturally associated with a Zlichovaspis rugosa trilobite. The Dicranurus measures 2.9" wide, has about 1% restoration, and has been prepared so it appears to fly above the rock on a pillar of limestone. The Zlichovaspis would be about 3" long it outstretched and has about 2-3% shell restoration in spots across its segments and along repaired cracks. A really amazing piece.
About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
