3.15" Jurassic Fossil Pliosaur (Liopleurodon) Vertebra - England

This is a beautifully preserved, 3.15" wide pliosaur vertebra from the species Liopleurodon ferox. The bone comes from the Middle Jurassic (160 million year old) Oxford Clay of England. Fragmentary bones are found much more often than complete specimen, making this a much more uncommon find. It is accompanied by an acrylic display stand.

One species of Pliosaur has gained much notoriety and received the nickname "Predator X".

Liopleurodon is a genus of large, carnivorous marine reptiles belonging to the Pliosauroidea, a clade of short-necked plesiosaurs. They were an apex predator during the Middle Jurassic period when seas covered Europe.
