3.2" Flying Crotalocephalina Trilobite - Lghaft , Morocco
This is an impressive 3.2" Crotalocephalina gibbus trilobite from Lghaft, Morocco, expertly prepared in a dramatic “flying” pose. Nearly all of the surrounding limestone has been removed, leaving the trilobite elevated on a slender pedestal of matrix—a preparation style that requires exceptional skill and many hours of meticulous work. The result is a dynamic, museum-quality presentation that showcases the species’ elegant curvature and fine shell detail. This specimen has no restoration.
About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
