3.25" Rare Lichid (Acanthopyge) Trilobite - Issomour, Morocco
This is a very rare, 3.25" long lichid (Acanthopyge sp) trilobite from Issomour, Morocco. Real specimens very hard to acquire because not only are they very rare, but they tend to be found disarticulated and the original locality was collected out years ago. Unlike most which are molts, this oe has both cheeks tightly attached and has No Restoration. There is the tail of another specimen just to the left of its body.
About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
