4.5" Spiny Psychopyge Trilobite - Short Snout Variant
This is a large, 4.5" long, example of the short snout varienty of Psychopyge. This species has a significantly shorter rostrum, as well as much smaller spines than Psychopyge elegans. The distinctive rostrum and all of the spines have been prepared free standing. It has about 3% shell restoration in total.
Psychopyge trilobites have become much harder to acquire the last couple years as most the easily accessable rock has now been quarried.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
