4.8" Cambrian Trilobite (Acadoparadoxides) - Tinjdad, Morocco

This is a elegant, orange, 4.8" long Acadoparadoxides trilobite. There are several species of Acadoparadoxides from this formation and I'm not 100% confident on which one of them this is. It has a natural, orange coloration due to the oxidization of iron pyrite.

Unlike many examples of these trilobites this one has relatively little restoration. Some of the pleural tips have been touched up and there is some restoration along the front edge of the head.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet with over 25k currently described species, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to a hard exoskeleton (shell), they left an excellent fossil record.
