4.8" Carboniferous Fossil Fern (Pecopteris) - France

This is a fossil fern (Pecopteris polymorpha) from the Late Carboniferous-aged Montceau-les-Mines Lagerstatte of France. This formation is Stephanian Stage in age, or approximately 300 million years old. The fern measures 4.8" long and is nicely centered on a rectangular-cut, 4.9 x 3.4" slab of rock.
