4.8" Polished Fossil Stromatolite Colony on Petrified Wood - Utah
This is a fascinating 4.8" wide fossil specimen featuring stromatolite colonies surrounding petrified wood limbs. Little is know about the specimen other than it was found at Old Lake Uintah of Carbon County, Utah. Based on information provided by stromatolite experts, the colonies are believed to be oncolytic stromatolites. Oncolytic stromatolites are spherical in formation, typically forming around a solid "nucleus" like a rock, plant, or grain of sand.
This specimen has been cut flat along one end and polished to a glossy finish. Comes with an acrylic display stand.
