4" Zlichovaspis Trilobite - Amazing Preparation

This is is a stunning, 4" long, specimen of Zlichovaspis rugosa from Ofaten, Morocco. It has been prepared with nearly all of the limestone around is has been removed so that it flies above the rock. This is a very time consuming preparation process that requires an incredible amount of skill.

The specimen is exceptional quality with very nice shell preservation and great eyes. There is only two tiny spots of shell restoration, <1%

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet with over 25k described species, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to a hard exoskeleton (shell), they left a excellent fossil record.
