8.4" Ordovician Brittle Star, Carpoids & Crinoid Plate - Morocco
This is a 5.7" wide, fossil brittle star (Ophiura) from the Kataoua Formation of Morocco. It is Ordovician in age, approximately 450 million years old. The bright orange coloration is natural and due to the oxidization of iron pyrite. In addition to the brittle star, this specimen contains three carpoids, several small crinoids and a partial starfish. This specimen has a repaired crack.
