6.4" Colorful Asaphid Trilobite - Fezouata Formation
This is a 6.4" long Asaphid trilobite (Ogyginus sp.) from the Fezouata Formation of Morocco. It has a colorful preservation which stands out nicely against the tan shale. Part of the right antennae is faintly preserved, a rare example of soft-bodied preservation occasionally seen on trilobites from the Fezouata Formation. This specimen is part of a small pocket of similar asaphids which were collected, most having some degree of preserved antennae.
There is about 1% shell restoration along a repaired crack.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
