Fossil Running Rhino (Hyracodon) Partial Leg - Nebraska
This is a partial running rhino (Hyracodon nebraskensis) hind limb collected from the White River Formation in Sioux County, Nebraska. It is Oligocene in age, or approximately 32 million years old. The bones were found naturally associated together and in good condition. They include the tibia, calcaneus, astragalus, and metatarsals.
Each of the long bones (metatarsals and tibia) have some repairs along their diaphyses, though very little gap fill restoration was required to piece them back together. The tibia measures 8.6" long and the middle metatarsal measures 4.1" long.
