Line of Six Fantastic Foulonia Trilobites - Fezouata Formation

This is a line of six well-preserved Foulonia trilobites from the Fezouata Formation of Morocco. Trilobites from this locality are often found in lines, which as sometimes been interpreted as fossilized migratory behavior. We tend to think it's more likely the orientation is due to currents sweeping the trilobites into wave depressions in the ocean floor.

The entire piece measures 16.2 x 4.2" and the trilobites are all around 1.5" in length. Preparation is very good and there is some minor restoration along repaired cracks. It comes with an acrylic display stand.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
