Two Colorful Asaphid Trilobites With Antennae - Pos/Neg

This is a plate of two large Asaphid trilobites (Ogyginus sp.) from the Fezouata Formation of Morocco. They have a colorful preservation which stands out nicely against the tan shale. The really cool feature though is that both have their antennae faintly preserved. This is a rare example of soft-bodied preservation in trilobites that is occasionally seen in this deposit. Both trilobites are about 6" long and they are nicely presented on a 18 x 8.5" slab of shale with the negative impression also included.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

About Trilobites

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
