Two Spiny Drotops Armatus Trilobites - Impressive Specimen

This is an incredible piece, featuring a pair of naturally associated, super spiny Drotops armatus trilobites. Both trilobites are approximately 4" long and each have dozens of spines which have been prepared free-standing. Yes, those spines are real and not composites. A piece like this would have easily taken over 100 hours of preparation time.

Restoration work is pretty minimal, we did some touchups of a few airscribe dings and scratches from preparation.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
