1.7" Fibrous Malachite on Blue Botryoidal Shattuckite - Namibia

This is a gorgeous, 1.7" wide formation of blue botryoidal shattuckite with aggregations of green malachite scattered about. It was collected in the Kunene Region of Namibia from a site that goes by many names: the local Herero language name is "Okandawasi", also known under the erroneous name "Kaokoveld mine", and "Otjikotu" is a name used for Kandesei by American dealers.

It has been mounted to an acrylic display base with mineral tack.

About Shattuckite

Shattuckite is a scarce copper mineral highly regarded for its vivid blue color. It is named after the Shattuck Mine in Bisbee, Arizona, where this mineral was first discovered. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic–dipyramidal crystal system and usually occurs in a granular massive form or as fibrous acicular crystals.
