2.1" Sparkling Blue-Green Aurichalcite and Smithsonite - Utah

This is a 2.1" aggregation of light blue-green aurichalcite and smithsonite collected from the Hidden Treasure Mine in the Ophir District of Utah, a location that's well known for its zinc and copper mineral deposits. The smithsonite boosts the allure of this specimen giving it a glossy finish. Portions of this specimen are covered in goethite, which present as tiny black fibers.

About Aurichalcite

Aurichalcite is a secondary mineral that forms in the oxidation zones of copper and zinc ore deposits. It often forms as radiating, fuzzy-looking acicular blue-green crystals and linings along cavity walls.

About Hidden Treasure Mine

The Hidden Treasure Mine is a historic, now-abandoned lead, silver, and gold mine in Tooele County, Utah, situated in the Oquirrh Mountains near the ghost town of Jacob City. Operating from the late 1860s until the early 1970s, it is known for producing various minerals and for a famous 1989 child rescue.

The mine is known for producing ores including native gold, silver, galena (lead), sphalerite (zinc), and other minerals such as cerussite, calcite, smithsonite, and aurichalcite.
