Pink, etched morganite from the Brazilian municipality of Coronel Murta is quite an interesting mineral. While these morganite crystals typically bear partially un-etched crystal faces and hexagonal/tabular structures, they're often heavily etched as a result of hydrothermal activity. This natural etching results in exceptional luster, and in some specimens, iridescent properties. These crystals are most commonly found on the market as faceted gemstones for jewelry.
Morganite is a pink variety of beryl that is also known referred to as "pink beryl". It earns its color from manganese(II) cations within the crystal lattice. Much of the time these crystals contain yellow or orange coloration, sometimes exhibiting a variety of colors in banded fashion.
