This is a beautiful section of "moss opal" containing small, black dendritic inclusions. It earns its more common name, "dendritic opal" from these small black inclusions. This form of opal comes from the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia. It's known to occur near the towns of Kalgoorlie, Leonora, and Norseman.
Portions of the specimen have been cut flat and polished to a glossy finish, with the remainder left in its natural form.
