This is a 7.2" wide travertine (aragonite) formation collected from a deposit in New Mexico. The mineral formations are reminiscent of petrified featherwood. Both sides have been cut flat and polished to a matte finish.

Travertine is a type of limestone that forms around mineral springs by chemical precipitation of calcium carbonate minerals. It is often quarried for use as a building material, but often makes for beautiful polished mineral specimens.
