Huge, 3.85" Ethiopian Chocolate Opal Nodule - Yita Ridge

This is a spectacular, 3.85" wide Ethiopian chocolate opal nodule from the Mezezo Opal Occurrence in Ethiopia. This opal nodule has been split and left in its raw, natural state, and exhibits outstanding eye-catching flash. It features a dancing play of color throughout the entire nodule that flitters between red, orange, yellow, and green. Chocolate opal nodules of this size are practically unheard of! Pictures simply can't do justice to the beauty of this piece.

As is, this specimen makes a stunning display piece but is also perfect for shaping, slicing, and/or polishing by an experienced lapidarist.

Comes with two acrylic stands for an aesthetic display.

Ethiopian chocolate opal is a nodular form of opal discovered in the 1990s. They form within a roughly 10-foot-thick layer of volcanic ash on the northern side of Yita Ridge in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. These nodules are known for their chocolate-like coloration and exceptional color play, though only a small percentage of these nodules actual display opalescence. Red and orange are the most common colors seen: blue is quite rare. Specimens with a complete color spectrum are understandably considered to be the highest quality of Ethiopian chocolate opal.
