2" Early Cambrian Trilobite (Perrector) - Tazemmourt, Morocco

This is a fantastic example of a rarely seen, very Early Cambrian trilobite (Resserops falloti) from Tazemmourt, Morocco. In fact this might be the best specimen of this species I've seen. It is 2" in length and has been prepared to bring it out in nice relief against the surround shale. There is also a partial ventral specimen and another head located on the shale.

The genus Perrector is synonymous with Richterops and Resserops. While these other two names are more frequently used when referring to this species Perrector is probably the most technically correct.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
