3.2" Flying Paralejurus Trilobite With Exposed Hypostome
This is an exceptional 3.2" long Paralejurus trilobite collected from the famous fossil beds near Atchana, Morocco. The specimen has been expertly prepared in dramatic relief, elevated above the surrounding limestone on a natural pillar of matrix. This presentation gives the trilobite a striking, almost sculptural appearance and allows its form to be appreciated from multiple angles.
Adding to the specimen's interest, the hypostome, or mouthplate, has been carefully exposed on the underside of the cephalon—a particularly nice anatomical detail not commonly visible on prepared trilobites.
There is approximately 3–4% shell restoration in total, primarily associated with repaired cracks.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
