3.3" Flying Zlichovaspis Trilobite - Orange Eye Preservation
This is a stunning, 3.3" long Zlichovaspis trilobite fossil from collected near Atchana, Morocco. The preparation work is amazing with nearly all of the limestone removed around it leaving it 'flying' on a pedestal of rock. The hypostome (mouth plate) has been exposed on the underside of it's head. Both eyes have a unique, orange preservation which is sometimes seen on trilobites from this locality. It has no restoration.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
