3" Crotalocephalina & Dalejeproetus Trilobite - Flying Preparation

This is a really outstanding association of two beautifully prepared trilobites from the Lhandar Formation of Morocco. There is a good-sized, 3" long Crotalocephalina gibbus with gorgeous shell preservation and a partially enrolled proetid trilobite, possibly Dalejeproetus.

The prep work is spectacular with most of the limestone being removed using air abrasives and air scribes under microscope leaving both trilobites aesthetically perched on pillars of rock. Dozens of hours of prep work by a very skill preparator would have gone into this piece.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
