7.2" Carboniferous Fossil Fern (Callipteridium) Frond Plate - France

This is a fascinating and rare fossil seed fern (Callipteridium gigas) frond plate from the Late Carboniferous-aged Montceau-les-Mines Lagerstatte of France. This formation is Stephanian Stage in age, or approximately 300 million years old. The ferns are beautifully laid out on a rectangular-cut, 7.2 x 6.6", thick slab of rock. A truly breathtaking fossil fern plate!
