Double Heliopeltis Trilobite Specimen - Very Rare, Spiny Species
This is a naturally associated pair of very rare, spiny Heliopeltis johnsoni from Issoumour, Morocco. This elegant species has long, flowing spines and most specimens that are found are molts. Both of these specimesn are complete and there is about 3-4% shell restoration in total, mostly where the spines were put back together.
Single examples of this species are very rare and this is the first multiple that I have ever seen.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
