Five Lonchodomas Trilobites With Foulonia - Fezouata Formation

Here is a really cool trilobite plate featuring five Lonchodomas (Ampyx) trilobites along with a solitary Foulonia. It comes from the Upper Fezouata Formation of Morocco. The entire piece measures 9 x 5.2" with the Foulonia being 2" long. The trilobites are generally oriented in a line which is commonly seen at this location, and has been theorized to represent fossilized migratory behavior.

An acrylic and metal display stand will accompany your purchase.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet with over 25k currently described species, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to a hard exoskeleton (shell), they left an excellent fossil record.
