Fossil Crinoid With Long Stem & Ball-Like Holdfast - Morocco

This a rusty-red, complete crinoid fossil featuring an intact crown, long stem and a ball-shaped holdfast which would have anchored it in a soft substrate. It is quite unusual to find crinoid fossils complete from the crown on down to the holdfast. The red coloration is due to the oxidization of iron pyrite which originally preserved the fossil. It outstretched it would have bene about a foot long and is nicely presented on a 10.5 x 8" slab of limestone.
