Huge, 6.2" Spiny Psychopyge Trilobite - Issoumour, Morocco
This is a huge, 6.2" long, spiny Psychopyge elegans trilobite collected from the Tazoulait Formation at Issoumour, Morocco. Both the preservation and preparation on this specimen is excellent. All of the tiny spines on its thorax have been prepared free standing and there is good eye facet preservation in both eyes. The missing left genal spine is a healed injury. At over 6 inches long this is one of the largest examples of the species I have ever seen. There is only about 1% shell restoration along repaired cracks. A real collector piece.
About Trilobites
Trilobites are an extinct class of marine arthropods that thrived for nearly 270 million years, from the early Cambrian to the end of the Permian period (around 521 to 252 million years ago). They are one of the most successful and diverse groups in the history of life, with over 25,000 described species spanning a wide range of sizes, shapes, and ecological niches. Known for their distinctive, segmented exoskeletons, trilobites provide invaluable insights into the evolutionary history of arthropods and the dynamics of ancient marine ecosystems.
