This is three fossil horsetail (Sphenophyllum) whorls, from the Breathitt Formation, Leslie County, Kentucky. The largest is .7". Sphenophyllum is an extinct genus of vine like horsetails from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian aged forests that formed the coal shales of Eastern Kentucky and Ohio.
