Two Huge Dikelokephalina Trilobites With Echinoderms

This is a pair of huge Dikelokephalina trilobites from the Fezouata Shale. The larger specimen is ventral and 11.5" long while the better preserved, dorsal specimen is 9.5". They are both located on a solid, 22 x 15" slab of shale which also has many internal cast fossils of type of echinoderm. There is only some minor restoration along repaired cracks in the piece. A truly impressive display.

A description of this trilobite can be found at the link below:

Trilobites of the genus Dikelokephalina from Ordovician Gondwana and Avalonia

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
