2.2" Exceptional Metacanthina Trilobite - Lghaft, Morocco
This is a stunning, 2.2" long specimen of Metacanthina issoumourensis often referred to as an "Asteropyge" or “Kayserops”. It was quarried near Lghaft, Morocco, and has nice eye facet preservation in both eyes. Nearly all of the rock has been removed from around it, leaving it flying on a pedestal of stone. A really aesthetic preparation.
This specimen has no restoration, and is really a top quality example of the species.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
