2.3" Spiny Ceratonurus Trilobite With Ventral Crotalocephalina

This is a truly outstanding specimen of the rare, spiny trilobite Ceratonurus from the Lower Devonian deposits of Morocco. The shell preservation is exceptional, and every one of the dramatic, sweeping spines has been expertly prepared free-standing. Even more impressive, it’s paired with a beautifully exposed, ventrally prepared Crotalocephalina, creating a dynamic and visually striking display. Restoration is minimal—less than 1%—limited to a few repaired cracks.

This piece has been part of my personal collection for several years, and only now have I decided to make it available.

About Trilobites

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
