3.9" Fossil Insect (Ant and Beetle) Plate - Utah
This is a 3.9" wide piece of shale featuring a nicely detailed ant (family Formicidae) fossil and a beetle (order Coleoptera) fossil. The beetle measures .35" long. The specimen was collected from the Green River Formation of Utah. While the Green River Formation is best know for its fish fossils, other areas produce incredible fossil plant and insect fauna.
