7" Pennsylvanian Fern (Sphenopteris) Fossil - Kentucky

This is a 7.05" wide fossil flora plate, collected from the Breathitt Formation of Leslie County, Kentucky. It includes impressions of Sphenopteris sp. leaves, as well as a preserved plant stem cast.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

Sphenopteris are a genus of extinct tree ferns that grew in abundance during the Pennsylvanian Period of the Carboniferous. Unlike modern ferns, that reproduce via spores,
these ferns and many others reproduced via seeds.
