Rare, 3.1" Psychopyge Termierorum Trilobite - Ofaten, Morocco

This is a rare, 3.1" long Psychopyge termierorum trilobite collected near Ofaten, Morocco. It is related to the more frequently seen Psychopyge elegans which comes from Issomour but has a much longer rostrum. This specimen is well prepared with dozens of tiny free-standing spines and and preserved eye facets in both eyes. It has about 1-2% restoration along repaired cracks. The tail appears to have been reposition during preparation.

About Trilobites

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
