Spiny Cyphaspis & Scabriscutellum Trilobites - Amazing Prep

The preparation on this remarkable specimen is nothing short of extraordinary! It features an exceptionally bumpy, intricately ornamented Cyphaspis trilobite closely associated with a beautifully spined Scabriscutellum.

Both trilobites exhibit outstanding exoskeletal detail, with even the finest features revealed through painstaking preparation. The Cyphaspis is particularly impressive, perched atop a slender column of natural matrix with nearly all the surrounding limestone meticulously removed. This dramatic presentation showcases its elaborate anatomy in stunning three-dimensional detail.

A truly exceptional example of masterful trilobite preparation! Total shell restoration is approximately 3%, confined to a repaired crack in the Scabriscutellum.

About Trilobites

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
