2" Flying Hollardops Trilobite With Gerastos - Orange Eye Facets
This is a spectacular, 2" long Hollardops trilobite from Morocco, exhibiting exceptional preservation and exquisite preparation. Intricate anatomical details are beautifully defined, including remarkably crisp individual eye facets in both eyes, highlighted by a distinctive orange coloration occasionally seen in trilobites from this locality. Much of the surrounding limestone has been meticulously removed, leaving the trilobite dramatically perched atop a natural rock pedestal. Adding to this impressive display is a naturally associated Gerastos trilobite, creating a striking multi-specimen presentation.
The piece is virtually unrestored, with far less than 1% restoration confined to a single small area just above the Hollardops' left eye.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
