Fossil Crinoid (Eucalyptocrinus) Crown - Waldron Shale, Indiana #197619

This is a gorgeous 2" long fossil crown of a crinoid (Eucalyptocrinus crassus), collected from the Silurian age Waldron Shale of Indiana. This is the crown (body and feeding arms) of the crinoid. It was removed from the rock it was found in, meticulously prepped to reveal all of the intricate details, and then remounted to this section of rock from the same location.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

Crinoids, sometimes commonly referred to as sea lilies, are animals, not plants. They are echinoderms related to starfish, sea urchins, and brittle stars. Many crinoid traits are like other members of their phylum; such traits include tube feet, radial symmetry, a water vascular system, and appendages in multiples of five (pentameral). They first appeared in the Ordovician (488 million years ago) and some species are still alive today.
