3.3" Flying Crotalocephalina Trilobite - Colorful Shell Preservation
This is a stunning, 3.3" long specimen of Crotalocephalina gibbus from near Atchana, Morocco. It features exceptional shell preservation, beautiful natural coloration, and incredibly detailed preparation.
Expertly prepared in a dramatic "flying" pose, the trilobite is elevated above its matrix on a slender natural stone pedestal, showcasing its intricate anatomy from multiple angles. Particularly impressive is the exposed hypostome (mouthplate) beneath the head, a feature rarely visible in prepared trilobites.
Restoration is approximately 5%, including most of the left cheek.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
