3.4" Large, Flying Crotalocephalina Trilobite - Lghaft, Morocco
This is an exceptional, 3.4" long specimen of Crotalocephalina gibbus, collected near Lghaft, Morocco. Remarkably large for the species and originating from an unusual locality, this impressive example combines excellent shell preservation with extraordinary, artistic preparation.
The specimen has been masterfully prepared in a dramatic "flying" pose, with nearly all of the surrounding limestone painstakingly removed, leaving the trilobite elevated above its matrix on a natural stone pedestal. This exceptionally demanding style of preparation requires tremendous skill, precision, and patience, transforming the fossil into a striking three-dimensional display. The beautifully preserved shell exhibits crisp anatomical detail, further enhancing the specimen's visual appeal.
Restoration is virtually nonexistent, amounting to only a fraction of 1% and limited to a small area along a repaired crack. With its unusually large size, uncommon locality, remarkable originality, and spectacular presentation, this is a truly outstanding collector-grade trilobite that bridges the distinction between a scientific specimen and a natural work of art.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
